The Manuscript Club — Terms of Service
Last Updated: August 17, 2026
Effective Date: August 17, 2026
1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to The Manuscript Club. These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and The Manuscript Club ("we," "us," or "our"), located at 244 Queen St, Ottawa, ON K1P 5V9, Canada.
By creating an account, accessing, or using The Manuscript Club website and services (collectively, the "Service"), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and any additional policies referenced herein. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.
We may change, add, or remove portions of these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes via email, in-app notification, or website posting; other changes become effective immediately upon posting to this page. It is your responsibility to review these Terms prior to each use of the Service. Your continued use of the Service after any modification constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
2. Immediate Access and Cancellation Rights
IMPORTANT: Please read this section carefully before creating your account.
When you create an account and accept these Terms, you request immediate access to the Service. By beginning to use the Service, you expressly consent to us providing you with access immediately and acknowledge that, where applicable, you lose any statutory "cooling-off" right to cancel without reason (including the 14-day right under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013).
Free Trial Users: If you sign up for a free trial, you consent to immediate access to the Service and acknowledge that your right of withdrawal ends when the trial begins. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, you will be automatically enrolled in the paid subscription, and you authorize The Manuscript Club to charge your payment method automatically each billing period until you cancel.
Paid Subscribers: If you purchase a paid subscription, you consent to immediate access, acknowledge that your right of withdrawal ends when the subscription begins, and authorize automatic recurring billing until you cancel.
3. Eligibility and Account Requirements
3.1 Age Requirement
You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old.
3.2 Account Registration
You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity occurring under your account.
3.3 One Account Policy
Each user is permitted one account. Creating multiple accounts is strictly prohibited and is grounds for immediate termination.
3.4 Account Ownership
You may not share, sell, transfer, or otherwise allow any other person to access your account or credentials.
4. Description of the Service
The Manuscript Club is a book club that connects self-publishers and authors ("Publishers") with readers ("Reviewers") to facilitate authentic, honest book reviews on Amazon.com. The Service operates through a Crowns-based system in which:
- Publishers submit their books in exchange for honest reviews;
- Reviewers voluntarily choose to read books and post authentic reviews on Amazon.com to earn Crowns;
- Crowns may be redeemed by Publishers to have their own books reviewed.
There is no requirement to accept, complete, or post any review; all participation is entirely voluntary.
Books must be published and live on Amazon to be eligible; pre-orders are not accepted.
The Manuscript Club is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Amazon.com, Inc. or any of its subsidiaries.
5. Crowns System
5.1 Earning Crowns
Crowns are earned in accordance with these Terms. Crowns cannot be purchased with real money. Earning rates may vary based on factors including book length, review type, and other variables determined by The Manuscript Club.
5.2 Nature of Crowns
Crowns:
- Have no monetary value;
- Are not property;
- Cannot be transferred, gifted, sold, or exchanged outside the platform;
- Cannot be converted to cash, gift cards, or any other form of value;
- Represent only a limited, revocable license to use certain platform features.
5.3 Crown Forfeiture
If your account is terminated for fraud, policy violations, or other breach of these Terms, all accumulated Crowns are forfeited without compensation.
5.4 Program Modifications
We reserve the right to modify the Crowns program — including earning rates, redemption values, and rules — at any time. Where practicable, we will provide advance notice of material changes.
6. Review Standards and Requirements
6.1 Honest and Authentic Reviews
All reviews facilitated through the Service must be honest, authentic, and reflect the reviewer's genuine opinion. Crowns are awarded regardless of whether a review is positive or negative. The Manuscript Club does not condition incentives on review sentiment.
6.2 Reading Requirement
You must actually read a book before reviewing it. We may impose minimum reading-time requirements based on book length, and reviews submitted before that time has elapsed may be rejected.
6.3 Review Quality Standards
Reviews must be original, reflect your personal experience with the book, be relevant to the book's actual content, and be written in a language you are proficient in.
6.4 AI Usage Policy
Reviews that are entirely AI-generated, or written by AI on your behalf, are prohibited. AI tools may be used only for fixing spelling and grammar or minor editing. The substantive content and opinions must be your own.
6.5 Prohibited Review Behaviors
The following are strictly prohibited and may result in termination: fake, fabricated, or misleading reviews; copy/paste templates across books; reviews that do not match the book's content; coordinating reviews with other users; reviewing books in languages you cannot read; purely AI-generated reviews; reviews submitted before the required reading time; and any conduct intended to manipulate or circumvent review authenticity measures.
6.6 Review Verification
We may require you to verify a posted review, for example by forwarding your Amazon confirmation email or providing a screenshot of the posted review.
6.7 Amazon Compliance
All reviews must comply with Amazon's Community Guidelines and review policies.
7. Reciprocity and Peer-to-Peer Restrictions
To maintain review authenticity and comply with third-party platform policies, users may not review any book from a person who has reviewed one of their books. This restriction applies indefinitely. We use automated detection, manual review, and user reports to enforce these restrictions; violations may result in warnings, Crown reversal, suspension, or termination.
8. Amazon and Third-Party Platforms
8.1 Your Responsibility
By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understand Amazon's review policies and Community Guidelines and agree to comply with Amazon's Terms of Service. You are solely responsible for ensuring your conduct complies with the policies of Amazon, Amazon KDP, and any other third-party platform.
8.2 Third-Party Links and Content
The Service contains links to third-party websites, including Amazon. Those third parties are solely responsible for the content of their sites and may impose their own terms of use. We have not reviewed, and do not guarantee the quality or accuracy of, any third-party content.
8.3 Amazon Enforcement Actions
The Manuscript Club is not responsible for any action Amazon or any other third party takes against your account, including review removal, account suspension, or account termination. You agree to hold The Manuscript Club harmless for any losses, damages, or penalties resulting from third-party enforcement actions against your account.
8.4 Platform Adaptations
If Amazon or any third party changes its policies in ways that affect our service model, we reserve the right to modify the Service — including features, restrictions, and Crown values — in response.
9. Subscriptions, Billing, and Pricing
9.1 Plans
The Manuscript Club offers the following subscription plans, as listed on our website at the time of purchase: Reviewer (monthly and annual), Author (monthly and annual), and Author Pro (monthly and annual). Current pricing is displayed on our subscription page. Pricing is subject to change; existing subscribers will receive at least thirty (30) days' notice before any price change takes effect.
9.2 Free Trials
Where offered, a valid payment method is required to start a free trial. You may cancel during the trial without charge. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, you will be automatically enrolled in the paid subscription.
9.3 Billing
Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method automatically each billing period until you cancel.
10. Cancellation and Refunds
10.1 How to Cancel
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings.
10.2 Effect of Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation stops future recurring charges only — it does not end your current paid period. Regardless of whether you are on a monthly or annual plan, you retain full access to the Service until the end of your current billing period (the "Expiration Date"). After the Expiration Date, your subscription will not renew and you will not be charged again. Accumulated Crowns will be stored and remain available if you later reactivate your account.
10.3 Refund Policy — No Refunds
The Manuscript Club does not offer refunds. All subscription payments are non-refundable. This applies to both monthly and annual plans, and to all payment amounts, whether full or partial.
By way of example and without limitation: if you purchase an annual subscription for $180.00 and cancel after one (1) month, you will not receive a refund of the remaining $165.00, and you will continue to have full access to the Service until the original Expiration Date, after which your subscription will not renew.
No partial, prorated, or pro-rata refunds are issued for unused subscription time, early cancellation, plan changes, account termination, or any other reason. This policy applies whether you cancel voluntarily, your subscription expires, or your account is terminated for any reason.
10.4 Plan Changes
If you switch between plans (for example, upgrading or downgrading between Reviewer, Author, and Author Pro tiers, or between monthly and annual billing), no refund is issued for the unused portion of your previous plan. New charges take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
10.5 Statutory Rights
Nothing in this section affects statutory consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
11. User Content and Intellectual Property
11.1 Review Ownership
We do not claim ownership of reviews you write. However, you grant The Manuscript Club a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, host, index, cache, and use reviews or excerpts, and to create derivative works, solely for the purpose of promoting books, the Site, and the Service, including for marketing purposes.
11.2 Book Submissions
When you submit a book, you grant The Manuscript Club the right to display its cover, description, metadata, and related information to other users and to use that information for marketing purposes. Because book content is author-submitted, we do not verify ownership and do not guarantee its quality or accuracy.
11.3 User Warranties
By submitting content, you represent and warrant that you own or hold all necessary rights to it, that you are the legitimate author, publisher, or rights holder of any book you submit, and that your content does not infringe any third-party rights. Copyright protection is your responsibility as the content owner. Report copyright violations to support@themanuscriptclub.net.
11.4 Prohibition on Scraping and Automated Access
You agree not to scrape or copy platform data, use automated tools to access the Site, attempt to extract user lists or book information, clone platform features, or reverse engineer any part of the Service. Violations result in immediate termination.
12. Prohibited Conduct
The following conduct is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate account termination: creating multiple accounts; sharing credentials; using VPNs or proxies to circumvent restrictions; exploiting billing systems or promotional offers; posting fake or AI-generated reviews; coordinating reviews outside the platform; buying, selling, or transferring Crowns; submitting books you lack rights to; using virtual assistants or other third parties to write reviews; repeatedly claiming and failing to fulfill review commitments; targeting competitor books with intentionally negative reviews; and any other conduct that violates these Terms or undermines the integrity of the Service. You may not take any action that could harm us or any third party, access parts of the Service you are not authorized to access, or do anything that could disable or damage the functioning of the Site.
13. Fraud Detection
We employ fraud detection methods including email verification, device fingerprinting, IP analysis, behavioral pattern analysis, payment method analysis, user reports, and automated and manual review. If automated systems take action on your account, you may request human review, though we are not obligated to respond or change the decision.
14. Enforcement and Termination
14.1 Our Rights
We may remove users from the Service for any reason, at any time, without notice, at our sole discretion, and without refund.
14.2 Effect of Termination
Upon termination: all access to the Service ceases immediately; all accumulated Crowns are forfeited; all pending review arrangements are canceled; and you will not receive any refund for unused subscription time.
14.3 Ban Circumvention
When we ban a user, we may ban all associated accounts identified through email, device fingerprint, IP address, payment method, or access patterns. New accounts created by banned users will be terminated.
14.4 Appeals
Banned users may appeal by contacting support@themanuscriptclub.net. We are not obligated to acknowledge, respond to, or provide a reason for any ban. All appeal decisions are final.
15. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
15.1 Service Provided "As Is"
THE SERVICE AND ALL MATERIALS ON THE SITE ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMISSIBLE UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL OPERATE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT THE SITE OR ITS HOSTING SERVER IS FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR, OR CORRECTION.
15.2 No Guarantees
The Manuscript Club makes no guarantee, implied or explicit, regarding:
- Any specific number of reviews for your books;
- Any specific timeline for receiving reviews;
- The perpetuity of reviews, reviewers, or review entries on Amazon or any other platform — reviews may be removed at any time for reasons including readers deleting their accounts, readers deleting individual reviews, or Amazon removing readers or reviews or limiting a reader's ability to post reviews;
- Any increase in book sales, rankings, or visibility;
- The quantity or quality of reviews supplied through the Service;
- Any particular star rating or positive or negative sentiment in reviews.
Reviews are not curated or censored by us. All participation in the Service is voluntary.
15.3 Specific Liability Disclaimers
The Manuscript Club expressly disclaims all liability for: reviews posted by users on Amazon or any third-party platform; Amazon or any third party taking action against user accounts; users not receiving expected reviews; the removal of any review from Amazon or any other platform after it has been posted; technical issues affecting Crown tracking or platform functionality; third-party actions affecting the Service; external consequences resulting from use of the Service; and user violations of copyright or other intellectual property rights.
15.4 Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL THE MANUSCRIPT CLUB, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES, DIRECT OR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUES, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, WHETHER PERCEIVED OR ACTUAL, THAT RESULT FROM THE USE OF, MISUSE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE OR ANY MATERIALS CONTAINED THEREON.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO THE MANUSCRIPT CLUB IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
15.5 Statutory Exceptions
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these Terms affects statutory consumer rights (including, for UK users, rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015) to the extent those rights cannot be waived.
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless The Manuscript Club, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: your violation of Amazon's or KDP's terms; reviews you post that result in legal action; content you submit that infringes third-party rights; false information in your account; misunderstandings regarding Crowns or membership terms; any external account penalties (including Amazon account actions); misuse or disclosure of platform data; or your violation of these Terms or any applicable law.
17. Dispute Resolution
17.1 Informal Resolution
Before initiating any formal dispute, you agree to first contact us at support@themanuscriptclub.net to attempt informal resolution within thirty (30) days.
17.2 Arbitration and Class Action Waiver (U.S. Users)
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally shall be resolved by binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, conducted in Ontario, Canada. Arbitration shall be on an individual basis only. YOU AGREE TO WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OR CLASS-WIDE ARBITRATION AGAINST THE MANUSCRIPT CLUB.
17.3 UK and EU Consumers
If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom or European Union, the arbitration agreement and class action waiver above apply only to the extent permitted by applicable law, and you retain any mandatory consumer protections of your jurisdiction.
18. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles. For UK users, UK consumer protection laws apply to the extent required by applicable law.
19. Service Modifications and Termination of the Service
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Site or the Service at any time, including features, Crown values, and restrictions, with or without notice, including in response to regulatory requirements, platform integrity concerns, or third-party policy changes. If The Manuscript Club ceases operations entirely: access will stop immediately; subscription fees will no longer be charged; no refunds will be offered for unused subscription time; accumulated Crowns will no longer be accessible or usable; and pending review arrangements will not be required to be completed.
20. General Provisions
Entire Agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other referenced policies, constitute the entire agreement between you and The Manuscript Club regarding the Service.
Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
Waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
